Scopri i risultati del metodo di degustazione del tè in 4 fasi di Nio Teas

To evaluate the flavor of the Henta Sencha Asanoka we look for a combination of the aroma and also how the tea interacts with the palate. Does it produce a dryness, acidity, minerality, sweetness or umami? We’ll also evaluate the texture of the tea, otherwise known as mouthfeel. Finally, for sencha tea, we’ll evaluate it based on how vegetal the taste profile is as this is a common characteristic throughout most sencha teas.

Passaggio 1: osservare l'aspetto

The leaves of the sencha Asanoka are a dark shade of green, with a combination of tightly rolled needles and smaller leaf particles.

Passaggio 2: valutazione dell'aroma

The aroma coming off the wet leaves is more subdued, with a stronger minerality and a light cereal note. There is also a hint of citrus and asparagus in the nose.

Passaggio 3: degustazione del tè

The first sip of the Henta Sencha Asanoka draws you in with a mineral sweetness that soon transforms into a hint of pine. In the mid-palate, you begin to feel the early stages of an umami flavor developing, but it stops short to give way to a slightly drier, cereal finish.

Passaggio 4 - Valutazione della sensazione al palato

The consistency of the sencha asanoka is rather thin, allowing you to easily notice the mouthwatering acidity and minerality as well as the light sweetness. The tea stops short of becoming sweet or umami, and rather plays off of this refreshing acidity and dryness.

100% coltivato biologicamente e di provenienza etica

At Nio, we collaborate with farmers who cultivate tea plants using organic methods, free from the use of chemicals and pesticides. This practice not only enhances the flavor of the tea but also fosters the well-being of the tea fields where it is produced.

Based on our experience, tea fields that avoid pesticides and chemicals not only produce healthy tea plants but also foster a lively ecosystem for wildlife to flourish.

Nio Teas Unique Organically grown sourcing process

  • We individually taste test each tea
  • We communicate with the farmers about the production methods and how they make sure no pesticides are being used in the process
  • We visit the tea fields in person to assess the quality and attention to detail taken during the production process
  • We walk around the surrounding areas to observe the health of not only the tea fields but also the ecosystem nearby.

Certificato JAS

JAS represents Japanese Agriculture Standards, which guarantee that products are grown without the use of chemicals or pesticides.

When selecting tea, we prioritize tea fields that are pesticide and chemical-free. We work alongside large tea farmers who can afford soil sampling and testing, and mandate that they provide the JAS certification.

However, we also collaborate with smaller tea farmers who have not yet acquired certification but still produce exceptional tea. In this, we accept the "pesticide-free" label. We like to provide opportunities for these smaller farmers, while still maintaining high standards across our product line

Come preparare il tè

To prepare the sencha asanoka, you can use a lower temperature water and a relatively short brewing time. 1 minute should be just enough time for the tea leaves to open up fully and release their flavor into the water.

    Passo 1

First, heat the water up to 70 degrees Celsius or 160 degrees Fahrenheit. This will be the perfect temperature for this sencha asanoka

    Passaggio 4

Once the brewing time is complete, you can now pour your sencha asanoka, and the teapot will automatically filter out the tea leaves, ensuring that they do not get into your cup. Now it’s time to enjoy your delicious cup of sencha tea!

Don't throw away your leaves after the first brewing! With the henta sencha asanoka you can get 2-3 additional infusions with the same leaves. Simply pour hot water into the teapot again and let the leaves steep for 20 seconds during each subsequent brewing.

Servizio da tè necessario

To achieve the perfect cup of sencha asanoka, a kyusu teapot is essential. The fukamushi teapot is highly recommended for brewing these types of teas due to its circular metal strainer that prevents clogging and facilitates easy pouring. When the teapot clogs, it becomes challenging to pour, and the leaves may overbrew as they sit in the teapot for too long.

Alternative without teaware

In the absence of a teapot, we suggest using a tea strainer for the henta sencha asanoka. This handy tool strains the tea leaves as you pour, preventing overbrewing and ensuring that the leaves do not end up in your cup. It won’t work quite as well as the kyusu because the leaves aren’t given as much space, but it can suffice if you don’t have one.

henta tea farm in japan

Luogo di produzione e coltivatore

Informazioni sull'azienda agricola

Mr. Henta, a skilled farmer from Kirishima, Japan, is the producer behind  the henta asanoka tea. During our first meeting, he shared an abundance of knowledge regarding the intricacies of different tea plant species, also called cultivars.

What interested us was his vast comprehension of the diverse tea plant cultivars, each with its own characteristic flavors and growth patterns.

Despite operating on a small plot of land, Mr. Henta produces a total of 8 different tea plant varieties. He has become quite good at blending these cultivars to extract the best attributes of each one, creating each of his distinctive green tea blends.

Proveniente da Kirishima

Giappone

Kirishima, a southern region in Japan, is the birthplace of the Henta sencha asanoka. In contrast to the frigid winter weather prevalent in central Japan, Kirishima enjoys a mild subtropical climate. Consequently, it is simpler to cultivate more delicate tea plant species that produce intricate and sweet green teas like this one.

Cultivar e varietà di pianta del tè

As the name would suggest, the Henta Asanoka Sencha is made from the Asanoka cultivar. This tea plant is one of the more rare Japanese tea plant varieties, but it can produce delicious green teas.
