Tanegashima Kuritawase Shincha
This tea has a nice grassy – hay note mixed with some floral notes as well. It is a bit of a delicate tea and you have to be careful not to overbrew it, otherwise it can turn a bit too astringent. One minute is enough to have a very flavorful tea. In the aftertaste there is a nice umami note mixed with a fresh grass and citrusy note.
Tanegashima Saemidori Shincha
This tea has a well developed grassy flavor mixed with a slight young hay note. There is a slightly fresh and lightly citrusy flavor but it is quite subtle. The tea also gives a very smooth sweet corn aftertaste. The umami in this tea is quite low but it develops mainly in the aftertaste.
Yakushima Yabukita
The Yakushima Yabukita is a very well balanced tea with a nice sweetness and soft umami. It also has a light cereal and sweet corn note. As is typical with a Yabukita tea, it has a slight citrusy note to it but it is very soft. The tea is full bodied and dense with a very decent cashew nut note.

Meet the Farmer
Tanegashima: Mr. Eiichi Matsushita 松下栄市 is a passionate tea farmer in the 4th generation of the family. During the steaming and processing of the tea, he stands at the steaming machine himself - like most tea masters. In 1909, Shizuoka's family settled in Tanegashima, Banyamine, bringing the tea-growing know-how to this pristine natural island. Mr. Matsushita has served as President of the Tanegashima Arasha Factory Association for 12 years. Its tea fields are located in the best green tea terroir of Tanegashima.
Yakushima: Fujiwara-san has fulfilled a dream with its own organic tea gardens and at the same time has done important pioneering work for organic cultivation in the region and it is a privilege to work with him!
About the Farm
Tanegashima: The tea farm is located in the northern part of the picturesque island of Tanegashima, about 115km south of Kagoshima City. The warm subtropical climate and the fresh sea breeze, which provides mineral richness and morning mists, provide an optimal climate for growing the early Shincha cultivars. At 223m, the tea field is at the highest elevation in Banyamine and is considered Tanegashima's top terroir.
Yakushima: In the middle of the wooded mountains, the Fujiwara family manages a small tea garden in which Yakushima Shincha is lovingly handcrafted.
How to Brew it
Add 5 grams of leaves to the teapot or strainer and then pour in 150ml to 200ml of water (160 degrees Fahrenheit) and let the tea brew for 1 minute. You can brew the leaves 2-3 more times with the same temperature for 20 seconds each
Very Popular as a Gift
Our fans like to give away our teas on birthdays, weddings and other special days! Our samplers are highly recommended as gifts!
Always Pesticide Free
We make sure to only source teas from reputable farmers that grow tea without the use of conventional pesticides or chemicals. We meet with the farmers in person and tour the fields and facilities. We look at the sustainability of the field, the attention to detail and quality control of the facility and of course the taste of the tea.
