Why You should go for organic genmaicha green tea
Just like other green teas made in japan genmaicha green tea should be bought from pesticide free sources. When producing teas, it is common to use chemicals and pesticides as a short cut, but small amounts of these can end up in some of the teas. That’s why we have made a commitment to only working with farmers that produce tea without the use of pesticides or chemicals. This method requires more skill and more time, but it is worth it for quality genmaicha green tea produced in a more sustainable way.
How to prepare the tea
Traditional brewing
For organic genmaicha green tea, we recommend using a slightly higher temperature and a shorter brewing time. When it comes to genmaicha green tea with brown rice, the flavor is released quickly, but the higher temperatures can push through some of the warmer notes of the tea!
1st brew
Step 1: Heat the water up to a temperature of 80°C (175°F), which is the ideal temperature for the genmaicha green tea with roasted rice.
Step 2: Add 5 grams of the genmaicha green tea to your teapot and pour in 150ml of the heated water.
Step 3: Let the genmaicha green tea brew in the water for 1 minute without disturbing the leaves. This allows the rice and the tea leaves to release a nice warm and nutty flavor and aroma into the water.
Step 4: After the brewing time is up, pour out the brewed genmaicha green tea from the teapot. The teapot will automatically filter out the leaves and the stems so they don't end up in your cup.
Enjoy your delicious cup of genmaicha green tea with roasted rice!
2nd brew
Don't let your genmaicha green tea with roasted rice go to waste after just one brewing! Some people think the best genmaicha green tea actually comes from the second brewing. You can even make 2-3 more cups of tea using the same tea leaves. Just add the same temperature water to the teapot a second, third or even fourth time and let the leaves brew for 20 seconds. In each brewing, you’ll get a slightly different flavor profile, and over time you’ll really get to know the different aspects and flavors of this exquisite tea!
Necessary teaware
To elevate your best genmaicha green tea to the next level, we recommend investing in a kyusu teapot for the best possible experience. This traditional Japanese teapot is designed to allow the leaves just the right amount of space to unfurl and release their flavors into the water.
The kyusu also has a built-in metal or clay filter. This automatically filters out the tea leaves as you pour, which makes things so much easier.
Alternative without teaware
If you don’t already have a kyusu teapot at home,we recommend you prepare the genmaicha green tea in a tea strainer. This may not get you quite as good of a flavor as a, but at least it will keep the tea leaves from getting into your cup! You can always upgrade to a teapot later if you want to brew richer and more flavorful cups of tea.
Location of production and farmer
Where is this genmaicha green tea with brown rice made?
This genmaicha green tea is produced in Shizuoka, Japan’s largest tea growing region. This region is home to many incredible tea farmers who benefits from the diverse, hilly landscape of Shizuoka.
Shizuoka accounts for 40% off all the tea grown in Japan, and while there is a lot of tea being grown on flat plantations, a lot of the farmers we work with also choose to grow their tea up in the mountains. Nestled into these small mountain plantations, the tea plants benefit from partial shade throughout the day, which can actually yield a smoother taste in the tea leaves.
Who makes the Genmaicha Green Tea with Roasted Rice
The Genmaicha green tea with roasted rice is made by the talented tea farmer Mr. Takada at Chanoka. His company Chanoka dates back to 1900 when his great grandfather started their first tea garden in Uji and since then they have dedicated their lives to growing and producing some of the best teas in Japan. We have started working with Mr. Takada in just the past couple of years, and already he has introduced us to so many great new teas like this one.
Cultivar and tea plant variety
This genmaicha green tea with roasted rice is made from the Yabukita cultivar, the most common tea plant variety in Japan.
Yabukita
Yabukita has risen to prominence as the dominant tea cultivar in Japan, accounting for an impressive 75% of the country's total tea production. This widespread preference can be attributed to several factors, including its exceptional ability to withstand frost, making it highly suitable for the colder winters in central Japan. Moreover, Yabukita is renowned for its unique taste profile, featuring robust savory notes and delightful undertones of steamed vegetables, adding to its allure among avid tea connoisseurs.
